Are there any entry requirements?

Candidates must have a very good level of spoken and written English. They will need to sit a written task and a short-spoken task.

How do I pass the course?

Candidates will be awarded the TEFL Certification only if they meet all of the following requirements:

  1. Pass both Teaching Practice sessions
  2. Pass all three assignments
  3. Attend at least 80% of the 45 contact hours (Given the essentially experiential nature of the training methodology, a medical certificate cannot exempt a candidate from this requirement.)

Can I start teaching when I finish the course?

You will need to apply for an ELT Teaching Permit first.

Is there an exam at the end of the course?

No, but there are 3 assignments and 2 teaching practice sessions.

What are the requirements for an ELT Teaching permit?

Applicants must be 18 years or older, must present this application forma clean and recent (1 month) Police Conduct Certificate and possess a together with either b and c or d from the following qualifications:

a) A SEPTT certificate at Band 3 minimum issued by the Council or any other speaking proficiency test
certificate at a level deemed sufficient by the Council;

AND

b) A MQF level 4 qualification in English (such as A Level) or a Test For English Language Teaching
(TELT) certificate
, issued by the ELT Council

AND

c) A Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) Certificate done at one of the ELT Council
approved TEFL Cert. Accredited Training Centres

OR

d) An International Certificate at MQF Level 5 or higher in English Language Teaching from an ELT
Council approved institution. Some examples of Level 5 qualifications are Cambridge CELTA and Cert. TESOL.

Is this course recognised abroad?

This course is recognised by the ELT Council, Ministry of Education, Malta, and by all language schools in Malta and Gozo. Some schools abroad also accept it. If, however you are interested in an international qualification then go for the Cambridge CELTA.

How much is the course?

The 2024 online course fee is €325.

Is there a way to get a Government refund?

Please note: EU citizens residing in Malta are eligible for a 75% refund of the TEFL course fee on successful completion of the course.

Our TEFL Cert. Courses are now eligible for funding under the Training Pays Scheme. The scheme offers assistance in the form of a training grant to aid participants with costs related to training. The grant will be awarded to the eligible individual (trainee) after the successful completion of their training. Grants are equivalent to 75% of the direct training cost excluding VAT but will not exceed the maximum amount of €1,000. The minimum threshold for an application to be accepted will be set at €100.

• The scheme only applies for level rated courses MQF Level 1 to 5 (TEFL Cert courses are pegged as a level 4 award on the NQF)

• Applications for funding must be submitted at least 15 days before the course start date

• The invoice and payment date for the course cannot precede the application for funding date
